So you want to start a Blog but confused between hosted and self-hosted? Perhaps you are worried about whether you will have enough time to take your Blog further, maybe you are not sure about the profit of your investment. What should you do now?
Read this Blog post !!
No doubt, there are so many sites on Internet that will give you information about hosting and self hosting. Combining my research and experience, I have created this post and kept it simple. I know, we all hate complicated technical things at the beginning.
When the idea of Blogging hit your mind, what should you do first?
Give it a try!!! How on earth will you discover if Blogging is for you or not if you don’t even give it a try.
Thinking of going for Free-hosted?
It is absolutely fine to take time and discover your CANs. I started my Blogging journey with wordpress.com Blog. When you are not determined about your Blogging career, you definitely don’t want to take any step that involves money. So, I believe, it is okay to go for Free-hosted when you want to give it a go. For that, you can go for WordPress.com, Blogger, Weebly or Wix.
Now, Let me wipe off the confusion between Hosted and Self-hosted:
Choose one of them: www.thatblogginggirl.com or www.thatblogginggirl.wordpress.com !!
- What attract us more is where we have our identity with .com, right? We definitely prefer the first one over the second one. So, if you want a brand name without interference of anyone, go for self-hosted.
- When your Blog is Freely hosted, your contents are not owned by you. The site that hosts your Blog, has the authority to remove any Blog post or shut your site down at anytime. Feels like a horror story? Exactly… so, whenever you are determined about your Blogging career, you should shift your Blog to self hosting. It is always wise to be on the safe side.
- A Building a beautiful Blog by dropping your flavor is a fun thing to do. Along with that, it also gives flexibility to your site. Free hosted site has limited customization. There is limited theme installation, no plugins and you can’t build your Blog the way you want. So having a self hosted site, building it with latest templates can take your Blog to next level of professionalism.
- There is no limitation in monetization when you have a self hosted Blog. You can start with your monetizing processes right away. You can apply for ads even if you have very less visitors, you can applied for affiliate marketing, sponsored post and you can even build your e-commerce store. But, when you opt for free hosted, monetizing ways get limited. You can apply for ads if you have 25k views per month on your site, you cannot apply for affiliate marketing sites (Only occasional affiliate links are allowed) and along with that, brands always prefer self hosted site for a sponsored post. Why to put so much of effort when your Blog cannot hold your back financially?
Are these points making sense to you? So, if you can see yourself as a Blogger or you have dream, an ambition or need a finance support… my preference would always be a self hosted one. And trust me, in comparison to all those mentioned advantages, self-hosting doesn’t demands a scary amount. Bluehost offers a self hosted website at as low as $3.95/month. And trust me, you can fully count on their customer service. Along with that, Bluehost also gives you a FREE domain, one-click WordPress installation where you can build your dream Blog.
Hope this post helped you to opt for the best one. Decide which way to go and select your hosting according to your way. If Blogging excites you as much as it excites me, believe me love it is totally worth of having a self hosted site. 🙂
